Museum of Contemporary Art

The MCA is proud to partner with Chicago Dancing Festival, and enjoys working year round with numerous arts and community organizations, making the MCA a shared resource for the cultural life of our city. The MCA is an innovative and compelling center of contemporary art where the public can directly experience the work and ideas of living artists, and understand the historical, social and cultural context of the art of our time. One of the few museums in the United States to illuminate today’s culture by actively integrating the performing and visual arts, the MCA presents more than ninety extraordinary dance, theater, music, and multimedia performances thrilling audiences year round in an intimate 300-seat theater. As part of their popular Artists Up Close series, organized to create a place for contemplation, stimulation and discussion about art and culture, on Aug.19 the MCA will present an unforgettable talk and demonstration by Limón Dance Company and Martha Graham Dance Company as part of the Chicago Dancing Festival. This fall MCA Stage 2008-09 openers will include author/humorist Mike Daisey’s fearlessly mind-provoking monologue If You See Something Say Something (October 10-12), Heddy Maalem’s exquisite dancers from Mali, Benin, Nigeria, and Senegal performing his deeply felt interpretation of the classic ballet The Rite of Spring (October 17-19) and NY’s daring ensemble Elevator Repair Service in the transporting theatrical event Gatz, a six hour tour-de-force immersion into F Scott Fitzgerald’s American masterpiece (November 14-16).
